With the advent of higher voltage and amperage systems, along with the increased use of telecommunications, matters have become enormously complex, with factors such the increased amount of cabling and corrosion driving connector and receptacle development. In turn complexity and system criticality present safety concerns, and these, in turn drive the need for standardization.

Traditionally, copper has served as the primary material for wiring of all types, from home wiring to automotive wiring. & nbsp;This is due to several factors one of which is for example that copper offers high conductivity with little resistance. However, copper is being phased out in automotive electrical systems, particularly in wiring harness applications and especially for hybrid vehicles. & nbsp;Aluminum is the metal that is replacing copper. There are a number of reasons for this shift, as well.

The IWCS announced today that they have issued the Call for Papers for the 62^nd IWCS International Cable·Connectivity Symposium, taking place November 10 to 13, 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

For over 60 years the IWCS Symposium has been the world’s leading conference for peer reviewed papers and presentations on technologies and trends in wire, cable and connectivity for the communications, data, electronics, power, industrial, automotive and aerospace industries. The annual event attracts participants from around the world with a comprehensive program including the technical conference, suppliers’ exhibition, professional development courses and an executive track. & nbsp; The 2012 event drew over 1100 attendees, and featured more than 120 paper presentations.

The topical scope of the program has been broadened beyond wire & amp; cable in recent years to include adjacent manufacturing segments of connectivity and wiring harness products by merging the IICIT Symposium with IWCS. & nbsp; Additional conference tracks, new Professional Development Course offerings and the Suppliers’ Exhibition support the expanded scope of the Conference.
